Board of Directors
Steven Davis, President and Founder
Steve Davis began On River Time to introduce children to the joy of watching a trout rise to a well-placed fly. “The river and I have a special relationship—the scenery, nature and the sound of the water suspends me to another time,” he says.
With more than 22 years of fly-fishing under his belt, Davis is no stranger to the sport, and he enjoys teaching the children who attend On River Time camps how to master the basics of a good cast. “Fish are smarter than you might think. The cast and mend is 80 percent of making the fish eat,” he says. Davis is also no stranger at The Lodge at Palisades Creek; after 20 trips to this Irwin, Idaho getaway, he is considered a family member. When he’s not drifting down the Snake River or trading stories at the Lodge, he’s thinking about doing just that.
If you ask him about his fishing stories, be prepared to stay for a while. He once got up close and personal with a bull moose after bumping into one of these large creatures on the Yellowstone River. “I screamed like a teenager at a New Kids on the Block concert,” he says.
Davis is also a photographer, writer and golfer. He is the senior vice president and director of Construction Risk Services for McGriff, Seibels & Williams, Inc.
Dave Roberts, Vice President
Dave Roberts was “hooked” on fly-fishing five years ago, and since then, has returned to the Lodge at Palisades Creek each year, bringing his family and employees to experience the river. “I love being on the water, engaged with nature and hopefully, catching a few trout,” he says.
Dave is also a past winner of the McGillicutty Award, which represents a dedication and love for the sport. Dave’s best day on the Snake River was this past year, when he caught a twenty-two inch brown trout with his son Brad. An avid duck hunter, he enjoys traveling to his cabin in Alaska and relaxing with his family on his farm in Mississippi.
He is President/CEO of Excel Contracting, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has been involved with On River Time since its beginning. “I wanted to share the river with children who may never have an opportunity to experience nature and the thrill of catching a trout on a fly rod.”
Contribution to those in need is what inspired John to join On River Time. With two sons of his own, John understands the significance of what positive and wholesome experiences can offer children. He is thrilled that On River Time creates an opportunity for children to experience the therapeutic value of nature.
John is President of Sun Country Builders, Inc. located in Vista, CA. and currently serves as a Board Member for The Staunton Farm Foundation located in Pittsburg PA. The Staunton Farm Foundation, established in 1937 by a family member, serves the mental health community of southwest PA.
Growing up in the Napa Valley, I learned a good environment is so important to making great wine. The same goes for great fishing. Kids need a positive environment too, which is why On River Time has inspired me to help.
Flipping through my fishing pics, my favorites are those shared with my son Stephen. My daughter Bess and I share great times skiing together.
Stephen¹s in college now and a US Marine, but we still enjoy our “river time” together. Bess is in high school, a singer and plays soccer. She’s also a foodie like my wife Kristine, who is an accomplished chef for our family winery.
I hope that by helping kids less fortunate to have a caring, nurturing environment, they can go on to achieve great things too!
