More Than Just Table Manners

Paving New Pathways for Personal and Professional Success

Walking into the beautifully set dining area, the kids were met with elegant place settings and a sense of importance. This wasn’t just a meal; it was an opportunity to learn the art of professional and social dining etiquette in a comfortable and encouraging environment.

The evening was not just about knowing which fork to use or how to properly hold a napkin. It was about self-respect, confidence, and poise—skills that will empower these young individuals as they step into job interviews, networking events, and future opportunities. Our Emily Post certified etiquette coach, Suzy Johnson, guided them through each course, teaching everything from a proper handshake to respectful conversation starters, all while ensuring the experience remained engaging and enjoyable.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the dinner was witnessing the transformation in the children. As the evening progressed, initial nervousness gave way to smiles, laughter, and newfound confidence. They asked thoughtful questions, practiced their etiquette with enthusiasm, and took pride in mastering these skills.

At the end of the night, many of them expressed gratitude—not just for the meal, but for the experience of being treated with respect and being given the chance to grow in many new ways.

At On River Time, we believe that building confidence goes beyond outdoor adventures. It extends to every aspect of a child’s life, including equipping them with essential life skills that will serve them well into adulthood.

This etiquette dinner was more than just a lesson in table manners—it was an investment in the futures of these incredible kids.

Because of your generosity, we were able to host a three course meal for 60, including high school students and their house parents!

Whenever two people come together and their behavior affects one another, you have etiquette.
