“Something about the trip changed me. It opened my horizons, and ultimately changed the trajectory of my life.”
— Lorenza
Together, We’re Casting Hope.
Through life-affirming programming, our goal is to help children of abuse and neglect become healed, successful, independent adults with a healthy sense of who they are—Imago Dei, made in the image of God.
On River Time
“Fish On!” Camp
Where it all began. On River Time’s “Fish On!" camp is designed to create a dramatic pivot in a teen's life. For a child who has a history of abuse and neglect, it’s an opportunity to create new, positive memories and affirm their worth. Hosted at The Lodge at Palisades Creek, an Orvis endorsed fly fishing lodge in Irwin, Idaho, the camp includes two full days of fly fishing on the Snake River, whitewater rafting, a day trip to the Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, Wyoming as well as reflective moments to help them heal from their past.
Our founder, Steve Davis, found healing from his own abusive past while fly fishing on the Snake River. We all have ‘moments’ that helped set us on our path. For a child who carries tragic memories of abuse, neglect, and abandonment, the “moments” in their lives are painful. At On River Time, we seek to create new moments, new positive memories to help them understand they have worth and aren’t defined by their past.
SOAR
Success, Opportunity, Attitude, and Resilience. Those are the key elements of SOAR, our Life Skills curriculum for the young adults who have aged out of their children’s homes and are now freshman and sophomores in college. The ‘little things’ aren’t so little. Through our SOAR program, we focus on teaching the ’soft skills’ that can lead to success in life. From job interview skills, to resume writing, communication skills, and even etiquette, our goal is to help ‘pack their toolkits’ and give these young adults every opportunity for success in life.
SOAR students are invited to participate in a weekend retreat, “Stay and SOAR” that combines instruction with a camp experience. Each year we serve around 100 students who are choosing to continue their education through our SOAR programming.
Scholarships
We love to see our student’s grow into successful, young adults. With your help, we can help them access education opportunities they would have never dreamed possible. Every year On River Time provides college and career scholarships to the high school graduates of the children’s homes we serve. As of 2023, On River Time has presented 58 scholarships to graduating seniors.
