Coronavirus Update
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you." Isaiah 43:2
We had to share some sad news. Kids from four children's homes had May 28th and June 5th circled on their calendars for months, the dates of this year's On River Time camps. COVID-19 has forced us to make the difficult decision to postpone our camps for this summer. For kids who have survived a difficult past, it's one more heartache, one more disappointment they are forced to face.
BUT HOPE IS NOT LOST.
We are working diligently to identify ways we can best serve these incredible and resilient kids. The Lodge at Palisades Creek has presented alternate dates for camp, possibly in October over fall break. For our seniors, we will work to include them in next year's camps if October isn't an option. Of course all of this is dependent on conditions. The kids' safety is, first and foremost, our primary concern.
In addition, as we do every year, we are looking forward to celebrating this year's high school graduates with the gift of college and career scholarships.
On River Time will continue to make a real and lasting impact in the lives of these kids, in spite of the circumstances.
In the meantime, we are identifying new ways to fulfill our mission of providing hope and healing through positive experiences and memories. We have created engaging programming for the kids while they're stuck in quarantine. Thanks to the generosity of many caring and talented individuals, we are offering online classes including art, dance fitness, etiquette, bootcamp fitness, jewelry making, and fly casting! Our deepest gratitude to Jo Anne Young, Denise Donohoo, Suzy Johnson, Shelvin Dear, Lucy Farmer, and Justin Hays for sharing their gifts and talents with the kids at Big Oak Ranch, Palmer Home, Still Creek Ranch, and Homes of Hope for Children. Here are the kids at Palmer Home learning how to draw flamingos with Mrs. Young.
