Help Send a Kid to Camp
Letter from Our Founder
Dear Friend of On River Time,
One of my favorite movies is American Underdog. It tells the story of Kurt Warner and his amazing journey to, not only the NFL, but to a Super Bowl MVP. It was a four year struggle, with rejection after rejection. But God had a plan, and when his offensive coach asked Warner why he deserved a chance to quarterback the Rams, Warner said, “Because . . . it’s my time.” There were several great quotes from the movie, but my favorite was, “it’s not about what you can achieve, but who you become . . . achieving it.”
As I reflect back on the past 10 years of On River Time, Warner’s words remind each of us that finding our purpose in life doesn’t just happen. It’s a struggle. But, who we become during this struggle defines us more than anything else.
As we count down the days until On River Time camps, we believe God offers us this moment, this time, to “make it matter” to children of abuse and neglect. Kids who have experienced pain and hardship. Each searching for who they are, hoping for a new perspective on the world and themselves.
On River Time partners with four children’s homes; Big Oak Ranch in Alabama, Palmer Home and Homes of Hope in Mississippi, and Still Creek Ranch in Texas. We offer life-affirming programming, mentoring, and scholarships to kids in their care.
Camps are held at The Lodge at Palisades Creek, in Irwin, Idaho, on the banks of the Snake River, and cost $5000 per child, all inclusive: airfare/transportation, drift boats, guides, lodging, meals, white-water rafting and the Teton National Park.
With this being our tenth anniversary, we are blessed to have hosted 200 children to our fly-fishing camps, plus serving dozens of older kids under our mentoring program, SOAR.
Thank you for being a part of our mission and helping us “Cast hope” with these kids. We could not have achieved this milestone nor become who we are without your generosity and investment.
We hope and pray that you will consider partnering with us again as we seek to change their environment, their perspective, and their future. Visit www.onrivertime.org for details on how you can give or place a check in the mail: 5184 Caldwell Mill Rd, Ste 204-127, Birmingham, Alabama 35244.
For the kids,
Steve Davis, Founder
